More Sightseeing

Today's post shows more of Munich along with a few shots from Neuschwanstein, Ludwig II's castle near the Alps.

The first two shots are of the Glockenspiel in Marienplatz. I wish I could say we planned to be there just at the right time but the truth is we stumbled into it as we were out for a walk. The clock operates three times a day and we just happened to be there when the marionettes started their rounds. It is an amazing sight to see!

Above is a shot of Neuschwanstein from the back. You can see some of the scaffolding on the left side that covers the entire front of the structure and makes photos from the front rather disappointing this year. To be honest, I think I prefer this view as you see so much of the surrounding countryside. Look at the wall on the right side - what a fortress this was!
The second photo is from a lookout about two miles past the castle. There are thousands of visitors in the area whenever the castles are open but if you continue on, past the Marionbrucke, you will suddenly find yourself all alone on the trail. I highly recommend the hike to anyone visiting the area.

Hanggliders are a common sight in the area and the lookout provides a unique viewpoint to capture their photo.
The last two shots are more random images from downtown Munich.
